Gallery Oldham
Oldham's museum and gallery service dates back to 1883. The new RIBA award winning Gallery Oldham building opened in 2002. The building forms the first phase of a new Cultural Quarter for Oldham.Gallery Oldham's art collection features British artists from the 18th century, and includes major collections of watercolours from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. The gallery actively continues to collect contemporary work by artists of international standing.
Gallery Oldham has a fine collection by young emerging artists at the beginning of the 20th century associated with the Slade School such as Orpen, Rothstein and Spencer, and numerous works from the artists' colonies at St Ives and Newlyn. These will form part of the Creative Tension exhibition along with a small but focused collection of studio pottery.
