The Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston

The Harris Museum and Art Gallery was opened in 1893. The museum is a Grade I listed building, designed in Greek Revival style.

The museum and gallery holds important collections of fine and decorative art, including the largest collection of perfume bottles in the UK. The fine art collection is particularly strong in 18th, 19th and 20th century oils and in contemporary photography. In recent years the Harris has gained an increasing reputation for its exhibitions of contemporary art, and was the venue for the National Art Collections Fund centenary North West regional show in 2003.

The Harris has an outstanding collection of some of the most famous Royal Academy blockbuster works from the 1920s-40s, and a number of recently purchased modernist paintings. These will form an important part of the Creative Tension exhibition.
