Bolton Museum and Art Gallery
The roots of Bolton Museum and Art Gallery go back to the 19th century, and the gallery and museum has existed at its present location since 1938.Bolton holds a strong representative collection of around 2000 oil paintings, watercolours, prints and drawings. This collection covers a wide variety of schools and periods, but the great majority is British works from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Works from Bolton's collection in the Creative Tension exhibition focus on Surrealist and modernist art works, with major works by Penrose, Epstein and Burra.
