Signed 'Laura Johnson' and painted in Staithes shortly before the artist's marriage to Harold Knight in 1903. Staithes was a relatively small artists' colony but the Knights knew and made friends with artists such as the Scot, Charles Mackie, and the impressionist painter from Oldham, Fred Jackson.
